At the University of Dundee, we are proud to be a university that transforms lives, locally and globally. We are currently seeking an experienced financial leader to join us as Interim Director of Finance during a pivotal period in our journey toward long-term financial sustainability.
About the role
This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in delivering our Financial Recovery Plan. As Interim Director of Finance, you will lead the financial strategy of the University, ensuring that our financial systems, policies and resources are aligned with our vision and operational priorities. Reporting to the Interim Principal & Vice-Chancellor, you will be a key member of the University Executive Group.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide clear and proactive financial leadership aligned to strategic objectives.
- Drive the implementation of the Financial Recovery Plan with broad stakeholder engagement.
- Strengthen financial planning, modelling, control, and reporting systems.
- Lead efforts to grow income from commercial activities, partnerships and intellectual property.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and sector-specific financial requirements.
- Develop high-impact relationships with internal stakeholders and external bodies including the Scottish Funding Council and commercial financial partners.
About you
We are looking for a collaborative, commercially minded and resilient finance leader who thrives in complex environments and has a strong understanding of higher education finance. You will bring:
- A successful track record in senior financial leadership in a large, complex organisation.
- Strategic thinking with a focus on delivery, performance and innovation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, including the ability to convey complex financial information with clarity.
- Proven experience managing strategic change and transformation.
- Professional accounting qualifications and substantial post-qualification experience.
- A values-driven approach, with a commitment to integrity, inclusion and collaboration.
