Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities for the Assistant Director of Basketball Performance include the following:
- Designs and implements comprehensive year-round programming (movement assessments, speed, strength and conditioning) for the athletic development and enhancement of student-athletes; maintains accurate and timely electronic records for monitoring prescribed and completed program variables
- In coordination with the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance, leads the development and implementation of comprehensive injury prevention, performance enhancement, and functional performance screening and testing; utilizes performance monitoring technology (e.g., body composition, force plates, NordBord, heart rate monitoring, GPS, sleep monitoring, velocity-based training modalities, etc.) as a tool to better plan and adjust training plans; continuously seeks continuing education opportunities and explores current tools and techniques; and utilizes evolving advances in technology to benefit and enhance each sport's training philosophy and serve the sport coach by providing specific and tangible information regarding athletes' physical status and abilities
- Works in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and sports medicine staff on collaborative performance screening on a yearly basis; serves as an advocate for the high-performance model within the Athletic Department for assigned teams; collaborates on rehabilitation plans per medical direction for appropriate modifications; ensures that nutrition plans are carried out for student-athletes in collaboration with the dietitian
- Communicates, collaborates, and interacts with coaches, athletic trainers, administrative staff, and Towson Research Academy of Collaborative Sport Science to apply evidence-based practice for strength and conditioning; understands and complies with all department policies and procedures, as well as NCAA and Coastal Athletic Association rules and regulations; promotes execution of the Athletic Department’s strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values, and acting upon its goals and strategies
- Maintains knowledge of emergency procedures, including CPR/AED and first aid; complies with all Towson University conditioning policies and procedures and supports catastrophic injury prevention
- Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance or Director of Basketball Performance
The work hours for this position include some nights and weekends based on practices and teams’ competitive schedules. Travel is required.
Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of experience working in collegiate strength and conditioning
- Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge base in sports performance and injury prevention program development of the collegiate athletics population
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to student-athlete wellbeing and health & safety in a competitive environment
- Ability to collaborate in developing a holistic sports performance model
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, travel with assigned team, and provide strength and conditioning benefits while traveling
- Experienced in Force Plate and GPS monitoring technology and workload tracking for practice planning purposes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Sport Science, Nutrition, or a related field
- Experience at the NCAA Division I collegiate or professional sports level
- Experience working with collegiate women’s basketball
- Experience with energy system development
