This post is an exciting opportunity to join the Food and Nutrition department at the University of Reading, one of the UK’s top 10 Universities for Food Science. You will work closely with researchers and academics to carry our important research into the chemistry of indoor farmed lettuce, to understand how indoor farming can be made more efficient and sustainable.
Working within the department of Food and Nutrition, we are looking to appoint a technician with an analytical chemistry background to support the research project ‘Optimising Genetics by Management (GxM) Interactions to Enhance Productivity and Quality in Indoor Lettuce Cultivation”.
With the support of other staff you will be responsible for sample processing and analytical techniques such as LCMS and GCMS. Other analytical techniques such as ion chromatography and enzyme analysis may also be included. You will be responsible for collating data into a format which can be used to create publishable research where you will be a named author. Training in use of specific equipment and specialises techniques will be provided.
You will have :
- A suitable degree in food sciences, nutritional sciences, agricultural sciences, chemistry, or a related subject, or will be able to demonstrate practical experience working in analytical chemistry.
- Technical experience working in a laboratory setting
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, able to prepare word and excel documents for record keeping and the recording of results.
