The Opportunity

The School of Social Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to join our dynamic team on an Australian Research Council Discovery research project exploring Gender Affirmation in Childhood. This is a part-time 21 hours per week (job share possible) position for a fixed-term period of 2 years based at Western’s Liverpool City Campus, although travel to other locations will be required.
The Research Fellow will work closely with the research team, support project management, administration, and research tasks related to project ethics, finances, and compliance, coordinate logistics for project meetings, travel, and events. They will maintain accurate records and assist with data management. They will collaborate with the research team on data collection, analysis, and reporting, and facilitate communication between the research team, advisory group, and participants, contributing to the efficient functioning of research processes.

The Research Project
Our project, titled “Gender Affirmation in Childhood: Protective Factors and Strategies,” focuses on understanding and supporting trans and gender diverse children and young people. This research aims to identify strategic areas to minimize distress and enhance the lives of these children, young people and their families. By examining their experiences and those of their families, allies, healthcare professionals, and educators, we aim to inform policies and practices across various key sectors.
About You
The successful applicant will have a PhD or equivalent - in gender studies, sociology, public health, youth studies, childhood studies, sociology of education, or another relevant field. You will be an enthusiastic researcher with an interest and/or expertise in the topic area, with qualitative and/or quantitative research skills, experience in supporting project administration and in conducting research as part of a research team.

Remuneration Package: Academic Level A $67,630 to $81,708 p.a. (comprising Salary of $57,148 to $69,044 p.a., plus Superannuation and Leave Loading)
Note - the above salary range is 0.6 FTE of the full-time equivalent rate.
