Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher Geometallurgical modeling and environmental assessment of mining waste
Duration: 12 months renewable.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join an interdisciplinary project focused on 3D geometallurgical modeling, mining environmental risk assessment, and the valorization of mining waste. The successful candidate will lead cutting-edge research in the characterization, modeling, and sustainable reprocessing of mining waste and tailings from both abandoned and active mines. The ideal candidate will have expertise in geometallurgy, applied geochemistry, and geo-environmental assessment, with advanced proficiency in integrating spatial data into 3D models using sophisticated interpolation techniques. Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to transforming mining liabilities into valuable economic and environmental opportunities within the framework of a circular economy.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate sampling campaigns utilizing drone surveys and reverse circulation drilling techniques.
- Conduct comprehensive physical, chemical, and mineralogical characterizations utilizing techniques such as XRF, ICP-MS/OES, QEMSCAN, XRD, SEM, alongside standardized environmental tests such as ABA, NAG, and TCLP to assess reprocessing and environmental remediation potential.
- Develop and interpret 3D block models using advanced geological modeling tools such as Datamine software, Leapfrog Geo and Surfer.
- Supervise MSc/PhD students working on related tasks.
- Publish high-impact papers and contribute to funding applications.
- Collaborate with project partners and compile, analyze, and document research findings.
- Disseminate results through the writing of scientific publications and technical deliverables.
- Work closely with fellow researchers to interpret results and contribute to the writing of scientific articles.
Candidate Profile:
- PhD in Geometallurgy, Geosciences, Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- Strong expertise in geometallurgy, mine waste characterization, applied geochemistry, and the assessment of environmental risks associated with mining waste.
- Demonstrated skills in 3D modeling software (Datamine software, Leapfrog, Geovia, or equivalent).
- Experience with mine waste valorization and pilot process design is a strong asset.
- Proven publication record and project involvement.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience with environmental data analysis (R, multivariate statistics).
- Experience in GIS.
- Strong scientific writing skills and command of scientific English.
- Initiative, autonomy, and willingness to conduct fieldwork.
Application Documents:
Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
- Cover letter
- Detailed CV
- List of publications
- Copies of diplomas
