IT Services – Networks & Data Centres
Looking for a job with a purpose? Make a difference and join our friendly, experienced, multi-skilled team of network professionals and play a critical role in keeping the University of York community connected.
About the role
Reporting to the Senior Network Engineer - Physical Infrastructure, this key role in our business-critical team will be responsible for managing ongoing installation of edge equipment and associated IT cabling to support the network modernisation programme. This continuous cycle requires the planning and execution of many smaller installations such as the refresh of all wireless access points in a building. You will order the required kit in advance based on designs issued by IT engineers, inspect the building to ensure practical feasibility, create work packages for contractors and report back on progress. There will be the opportunity to manage other projects being undertaken by others within our team.
You’ll work closely with colleagues in the Networks & Data Centres team, and develop and nurture relationships with wider IT Services teams, Estates and Facilities and our user departments, as well as contractors to ensure our network is installed as required.
When necessary, you’ll represent the Networks & Data Centres team on several relevant internal groups
With an ability to prioritise their own activities as well as those of others, alongside a desire to deliver key customer-focussed services, the post holder will play a key role in ensuring network related services are delivered effectively and efficiently, supporting the business objectives of the University.
This role offers opportunities to develop or implement your existing skills in a different environment. We are committed to supporting our staff's development and encourage applications from people who can bring new experiences and ideas, with the right attitude and aptitude.
