The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina invites qualified candidates for an open rank tenure track position in Criminology and Criminal Justice (CRJU), beginning August 2024. The candidate must demonstrate scholarly expertise in the area(s) of policing; Candidates whose work focuses on building the scientific evidence base for policing and demonstrates a record of building relationships with practitioners for the purposes of conducting research and implementing better organizational processes and outcomes, are especially encouraged to apply.
Required Education and Experience
An earned PhD in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related discipline (e.g., sociology, political science, psychology, public administration) by the time of appointment. Applications from ABDs accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate would have the capability to build and maintain professional relationships with policing executives and other relevant stakeholders, as well as conduct on-site visits with police agencies. We have a strong preference for candidates with a record of engaging in research activity aimed at bridging the practitioner and academic worlds. While a diverse set of policing-focused research agendas will be considered, the preferred candidate will have demonstrated excellence in research activity as evidenced by significant grant activity and publications in nationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. The preferred candidate would have the ability to further our faculty’s advanced statistical and research design capabilities.
