The Finance and Procurement Directorate is responsible for the management of the University's financial affairs with the vision to protect, build and enhance the University's financial position. It contributes to the strategy and direction of the University and provides financial advice and support.
We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Management Accountant (Research) within the Finance and Procurement Directorate to work as part of the Research Finance Services team, you will provide direction to the Research Finance team, supporting the integrity of research policy and accounting processes by the provision of technical financial and accounting advice and managing the team in the delivery of a high quality professional service to the University. This is a full-time temporary appointment.
As a finance professional, this role will be responsible for providing information and advice to other parts of the Finance Directorate and to the wider University to enable decision making with significant impact. This will be achieved by collaborating with other senior managers in the University. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of building positive relationships with finance and non-finance staff and being able to communicate financial information in a clear and accessible manner, both in writing and verbally.
Your priorities will include:
- Ensuring accurate financial accounting for externally funded research activity, including revenue recognition;
- Production of research budgeting and forecasting, ensuring data integrity at project level and working closely with the Finance Business Partner Team;
- Developing the University's capability to produce accurate forecasts of financial performance;
- Ensuring effective management of foreign currency research projects, working closely with the Financial Accountant to minimise currency risks;
- Producing cash flow forecasts for research activities, working closely with the Financial Accountant
Who we're looking for:
- Fully qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) post qualification experience relevant to role;
- Experience of internal and external reporting within an organisation of comparable size;
- Application of financial/business processes and controls;
- Operation of devolved financial management;
- Up-to-date knowledge of technical accounting developments and practice;
- Good team working skills
The successful applicant will be expected to have extensive experience of HEI research grants processes and systems, a strong knowledge of finance, an understanding of research grant administration, reporting and management processes and understanding of systems/services and their dependencies across organisational functions.
