Job description
We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Human Geography to design and deliver teaching content in the classroom and in the field, across a range of modules within the Geography Subject area. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to undergraduate teaching in one or more of the following areas: urban geographies, disaster risk reduction, global development, sustainability, climate change and/or research methods and design.
About the role
The post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching across Geography, particularly in areas related to Human Geography. This will include both in class teaching and fieldwork. There will be associated module administration such as assessment, marking and feedback. The role also involves acting as an Academic Advisor to undergraduate students and supervising final year Dissertation projects. There will also be involvement in the promotion and marketing of the Geography programme through recruitment events and outreach. The successful candidate will also undertake research activities and be a member of the Centre for Research on Science and Society. Geography staff are currently active members of three research clusters within the centre: Climate, Hazards and Environmental Change, Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation, and Identities and Inequalities.
About you
- A first degree and PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline
- Recent, successful experience of university teaching in Human Geography or a closely related area
- A track record or demonstrable potential in research and/or scholarship
- An ability to inspire learners through commitment to excellent teaching
- Excellent ICT skills including e-learning tools
- Experience of module administration
- Experience of, or ability to contribute to, international residential field trips
- Professional experience in a relevant field
- An understanding of HE quality assurance processes

Additional information
Applicants with two years or less full-time equivalent teaching experience in Higher Education who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to complete an approved Certificate in Professional Learning in Higher Education course during the first two years of employment.
Applicants with more than two years full time equivalent teaching experience in Higher Education who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to accredit their practice through the HEA fellowship application process during their 6-month probation period.

£44,128 to £55,755. Grade AcS3/Ac3A, per annum
