Do you have experience in physical computing such as sensors, actuators and micro-controllers? Do you want to support our next generation of innovators? The University of Bristol are seeking a proactive and detail-orientedSpecialist Technicianto join our vibrant Technical Services support team. This role will support both educators and students from a variety of engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Aero, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics and Civil.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on supportive capacity, helping to ensure that our teaching environments and technical resources are ready for effective learning. As a Specialist Technician you’ll be focused on supporting students with their project work by trouble shooting, configuring and setting up equipment, specialist procurement for projects, managing a library of technical resources and respond to day-to-day technical requests from students.
This is a varied role that requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and a proactive approach for problem-solving. You’ll be part of a collaborative Teaching and Development team supporting innovative teaching in fast-evolving fields by supporting both students and staff.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities:
- Directly supporting students with technical queries.
- Ensuring a safe working and learning environment.
- Collaborating with technical and academic staff to support practical teaching.
- Advising on, and loaning technical equipment to both staff and students.
- Supporting the purchasing of new equipment and consumables.
- Maintaining stock and managing inventories across our laboratories and spaces.
- Assisting in the preparation and setup of teaching materials and technical kits.
- Planned and reactive maintenance of equipment.
- Continuous development of spaces and activities.
